The History of Soul Line Dancing

While line dancing itself has older origins (like the Electric Slide from the late 1970s), soul line dancing began to take shape in the 1990s - emerging as a distinct cultural movement combining music with choreographed group dance routines.

It evolved as a social, expressive form of dance that celebrates community, music, and rhythm - often performed at social gatherings, clubs, churches, and events. The movement gained further momentum in the 2000s with the rise of popular dances like the Cupid Shuffle and Wobble, and through the efforts of instructors and choreographers who formalised routines and taught them nationwide.
